The Christmas Season is coming on fast. Gifts are already being bought, Holiday movies are playing, and Christmas Music is already playing! It’s humbling to see my Acoustically Christmas album continue to be a perennial best-seller. It was certainly one of my favorite projects and the guest artists who helped me out, helped give me some of my most precious memories in the studio.

Of course AC is available at hundreds of places, around the planet…but here are a few links to some of the more common ones, in case you want to order up (or download) a copy or two. Thank you, and Merry Christmas! - Ricky

Over the weekend, one of the most memorable things happened. I got the chance to do a Five On The Five blog interview with one of my personal heroes, the legendary Marc Cohn! You know…”Walkin’ in Memphis. I was walkin’ with my feet ten feet off of Beale.” THAT Marc Cohn! Take 5 minutes and check it out.
I am SO proud of the brand-new song I got to write with Jude and his classmates at the Homer Baptist DAWG Pound program today, “I Want To Dance Dance Dance”. We wrote it, on the spot, in like 10 minutes. They were incredible. Blew me away.

There should be A LOT of very proud parents out there…your kids DID this!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

“Highway 98” About To Drive Into GA Music History

Georgia is certainly no stranger to making musical history. Being home to a host of famous groups, artists, bands and songwriters like REM, James Brown, Alan Jackson, The Zac Brown Band, Amy Grant and dozens of other household names and artists, Georgia is well above “the curve” in the areas of musical individuals, groups, songs and compositions, production and creation.

The State of GA is preparing to introduce yet another addition to an already rich and legendary musical heritage. Representative Tommy Benton is proposing new legislation in the 2012 Session of the GA General Assembly that would designate a portion of GA Hwy 98 as the “Highway 98” By Ricky Fitzpatrick Highway.

Upon its passing, this would be a first for any roadway, ever, in the state of GA, legislatively recognizing its association with a particular song. No song has ever received such an honor in Georgia’s 280 year history.

“Highway 98” was written by award-winning artist and songwriter, and GA native, Ricky Fitzpatrick. It has circulated throughout the local and extended music community for the last several years, winning awards, gaining popularity and eventually becoming the fan-acknowledged (although “unofficial”) song of GA Hwy 98.

“It seems like lately, everything is clicking”, says Fitzpatrick. “And it’s very humbling to see this happening. God has been particularly gracious to me when it comes to music. I look around today and find myself in the company of some of the most amazing songwriters in the world, all GA boys…people like Hoagy Carmichael. Johnny Mercer. Alan Jackson. Michael Stipe. It’s a dream that just keeps coming true.”

The Georgia General Assembly is currently in session and according to Rep Benton, the resolution should be presented shortly. Results should be available, shortly after that, with the bill becoming a part of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, this coming July.

Fitzpatrick and a number of fans will now begin preparing fund-raising activities to help defer the cost of sign purchases and installation (the State doesn’t pay for that), which presently totals an estimated $1500. Individuals or business owners who want to sponsor part of the purchase can contact him for details at ricky@rickyfitzpatrick.com.

Rep. Benton can be reached with input on the proposal by phone at 706-367-5891 (home) or 404-656-0213 (office), or 404-657-7752 (fax); or by e-mail at tommy.benton@house.ga.gov.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

July 6, 2011

Apple Valley (Jefferson), GA

Dry Pond Road Gets National Exposure

Award-winning artist and songwriter Ricky Fitzpatrick awoke this past Saturday morning to the sound of music. His own, actually.

One of his recent instrumental songs “Dry Pond Road”, was selected for use as the theme and closing music in GardenSMART one of Public Broadcasting’s longest running, nationally airing programs.

“We got up, turned on the TV and there it was…it was so surreal” he says. “We knew the song had been picked for use, but actually watching the show on TV and hearing it play on-air, it was just amazing. Very cool and definitely one of my musical high points.”

The song, a track from Fitzpatrick’s forthcoming CD “Down Home In the Promised Land”, is rustic Appalachian Folk played on one solo guitar. It was featured at the beginning and end of the Barnsley Gardens Resort episode of the weekly program.

“Since the show aired, online activity on that song has skyrocketed” says Fitzpatrick. “It’s amazing how many people have become interested in it because of hearing it on their TV.”

GardenSMART is currently in its 13th season, making it one of the longest running and most watched programs on Public Broadcasting. It airs at various times around the U.S., on over 170 different PBS stations, everywhere from New York to California and Georgia to Hawaii.

Ricky lives, records (and occasionally gardens) with his family in the rural community of Apple Valley (unincorporated), GA, and also leads worship services at Corner-stone Church in Jefferson.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

November 10, 2010

Space Shuttle Mission Wake-up Songs: Singer-Songwriter Taking His Music to New Heights

Award-winning Christian and Folk singer-songwriter Ricky Fitzpatrick has been creating “unforgettable songs that coolly straddle the fence between Folk & Country” in and around the Southeast for over two decades. Critics and fans have called him “the next James Taylor” and “a Southernized Bob Dylan” with a voice “as smooth as moonshine”.

His musical career spans pop, rock, country, folk and Christian genres, with performances everywhere from “Live at the Apollo” to The Bluebird Café. And fans of Fitzpatrick are no strangers to his broad reach when it comes to crossing genre, style and culture barriers. Although known mostly for his acoustic stylings, he’s constantly seeking out new and unexpected opportunities to compose or perform.

That may include anything from traditional choral arrangements, Gregorian chants, Gospel standards, driving rock, quirky jingles or Grammy-winning New Age instrumentals.

But his latest adventure is really out of this world. No, really…it’s literally “out of this world”.

As NASA winds down the Space Shuttle program, we look ahead to the final launch of the final shuttle (Endeavour), in late February 2011. And as part of the final hoopla, NASA is selecting wake-up songs for the astronauts from public submissions.

Fitzpatrick has composed an instrumental Pop Fusion song entitled “Morning Endeavour” which will be considered for use during that final mission.

What the world needs is yet another “acoustic” Christmas CD. Right?

But if your Holiday heart is yearning for the unplugged sounds of the acoustic guitar, plucked harmonics, lush fingerpicking, and mellow solo and ensemble vocals…unencumbered by the distractions of synthesizers, electric guitars and full-blown orchestral arrangements…then your wait may be over.

“Acoustically Christmas” is a genuinely acoustic collection of classic Christmas selections of faith, tastefully arranged and recorded to give you and yours, year after year of timeless Seasonal soundtracking.

A collection of music from award-winning, Folk & Country singer-songwriter Ricky Fitzpatrick, “Acoustically Christmas” marks the high point in his career, captivating fans around the world with his relaxing guitar and a mellow baritone that’s sure to warm you when the December temperatures begin to drop.

"It’s my prayer that God won't see me in these recordings. But that He'll look at me and my choices and my offering, through the blood of Christ, and find me worthy to stand and sing these songs, having Him and His purpose in mind", says Fitzpatrick. "And that my foolish shortcomings of the past year won’t hinder the awesome power of His great mercy and enduring love, as people hear me singing of Him in this music."

Fresh arrangements of songs like “Little Drummer Boy” will wow you as Fitzpatrick coaxes perfectly played drum & percussion sounds from nothing less than, his guitar. The haunting acapella “O’ Come Emmanuel” is chilling in its majesty as you hear layer upon layer of voice upon voice. And visions of James Taylor arise like an old friend, in renditions of “It Came Upon A Midnight Clear” and “The First Noel”.

Please go to http://www.rickyfitzpatrick.com/music-67.html to listen to a sample of “What Child Is This”, and learn how to order “Acoustically Christmas” online today, with no payment until the official street date of November 5.

Hear for yourself and bring home “Acoustically Christmas” for you, or as a gift for someone special. And have a very Merry Christmas!

Just wanted to let everyone know that plans are working for the new, upcoming Christmas CD, probably to be titled "Acoustically Christmas". This project is destined to be a collection of acoustically treated Christmas classics...song that we all know and love and have heard and sung a billion times! "Christmas standards".

My hope is that these will be great additions to families' Holiday activities, either around the house, at church, in the car or wherever you have Christmas stuff happening.

"What Child Is This", one of the cuts is already up on the music page (http://www.rickyfitzpatrick.com/music-67.html). I hope everyone is able to go check it out and give me a pre-release report. :)

I'll be recording the CD in The Junk Room studio at our home in Apple Valley and stretching my legs as I wade a little deeper into the mastering process. For the most part, it will continue to be me on all the vocals and instrumentation. But there will be a few special guests here and there (that's all I have to say about that).

And we'll be releasing it around mid to late October. Digitally, it will be in all the big spots...CD Baby, iTunes, Amazon, Napster, eMusic, Rhapsody and so on. Physical CD sales, which are becoming more and more overshadowed by MP3s, will be handled directly through me. More on that, coming up though.

Not much else to report yet, but stay tuned and I'll be sure to pass along all new developments as they happen.

Thanks!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

May 15, 2010

Georgia Supergroup of Country, Bluegrass and Christian Artists to Record Hurricane Shoals Song

Jefferson, GA – Hurricane Shoals Park is a North Georgia landmark for the people in and around Jackson, Banks and Madison Counties and beyond. For decades, parents and children alike have trekked to the unique spot where the cold waters of the North Oconee River run fast and shallow over vast expanses of exposed granite.

The park is also home to the historic Heritage Village, a working grist mill, one of the few remaining covered bridges in the state, the annual Art in the Park festival, an outdoor amphitheatre and a variety of picnic and play areas available for play, relaxation and special events like weddings, parties and family reunions.

It’s no secret to the music loving public and industry, that North Georgia has always been a hotbed of musical talent. Countless award-winning artists have emerged from the foothills of the North GA mountains area, dozens continuing on the become staples and even legends in popular music.

It is that well-known and respected, collective pool of musical talent that is responsible for the Down By the Waters Edge fund raising project, aimed at raising funds for the park’s never-ending laundry list of additions, upkeep, maintenance, repairs and day to day activities.

In true small-town, Southern fashion, a veritable Supergroup of successful musicians from the Country, Bluegrass and Christian genres, and all who hail from the North Georgia area, are joining artistic forces this Summer, to record a song that they will donate to the Hurricane Shoals Park.

“Down By the Water’s Edge”, a song written specifically for the project by Christian Folk artist and songwriter Ricky Fitzpatrick, will be recorded this Spring and made available for sale to the public, this Fall.

The song will feature guest vocals and instrumental work from an All-Star artist roster that is slated to include Fitzpatrick, Mark Garrison & the members of Bluebilly Grit, Wayne Baird, Dustin Wilkes, T. Graham Brown and John Berry. And according to Fitzpatrick, who is also organizing the entire project, “We have other artists on the list who just haven’t thrown-in yet, so I expect a couple more surprise additions before it’s all said and done.”

The recording expertise and studio time is also being donated by producer and studio owner Lee Davis at Lee Davis Studios in Maysville, GA. Davis who has produced more than 50 independent albums and worked with everyone from Corey Smith and John Berry to Joe Diffie and Billy Dean, will be recording and producing the project.

The song will be debuted September 17 at the annual Art in the Park festival, held in the Hurricane Shoals Park. At that time, Fitzpatrick will officially present the members of the Tumbling Waters Society (the non-profit fund raising arm for the park) with the song, and with 100% of its publishing rights, so they may collect royalties on its sale and use “in perpetuity”, he says. “We want every penny of the money raised by this song to go directly to the park and its activities.”

“Down By the Water’s Edge” will be available September 10, 2010 as a digital download via iTunes, Amazon.com and other reputable digital retailers. Information on the song or on other means of purchasing the song, can be found on the Down By the Water’s Edge Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Down-By-the-Waters-Edge-A-Song-for-Hurricane-Shoals/120342641310994.

An excerpt from the Living Jackson magazine article, The Jackson County Sound, Part II of II.

Story by Jaclyn Weldon White

Now we come to the

second and final installment—

or shall we say the

final verse—of the Jackson

County Sound series in

Living Jackson.

Ricky Fitzpatrick has been

performing professionally

for about 20 years. The

musician, who lives with his family in

Apple Valley, started out playing the

guitar and singing popular songs of the

day in Athens bars and clubs.

“All the songs people love to drink

to,” he said with a smile.

He always considered his style to be

folk, but just about everyone seemed to

think of him as a country singer.

“It’s because I talk with such a

at Southern drawl,” he said.

But Fitzpatrick wasn’t satisfied just

covering other people’s songs. More

and more he crafted his own compositions,

many of which were about life,

people and places in and around Jackson

and Madison counties.

When he began performing it, his

own work was well received, not only

locally, but around the country. He

even performed at New York’s Apollo

Theater. Soon afterwards, Fitzpatrick

decided that he’d only perform his

own music. The decision was met with

mixed reactions. It wasn’t popular in

the bar scene, but he soon found new

audiences in coffee houses, libraries

and bookstores.

In 2009 Fitzpatrick decided to re

cord a gospel CD, taking a collection of

gospel songs and hymns and recording

them in his own folk-influenced style.

It wasn’t a big stretch for a man who’d

actually studied for the ministry in his

youth, but he freely admits the move

was originally based on business. He

knew that the Christian market was a

prosperous one. However, the acceptance

of his new work was overwhelming

and what started as a business

decision rapidly became a life-changing

passion.

“A few months ago,” he said, “I

announced I’ll only be doing Christian

material from here out.”

Fitzpatrick is one of the founders of

The Healing Power of Music, a group of

over 300 musicians—including James

Taylor, Amy Grant and the Imagination

Movers—who take the gift of live

musical performances to hospitals and

nursing homes.

He has a new CD in the works and

appearances scheduled in bookstores,

libraries and at area Relays for Life this

spring. In the fall, he’ll be appearing at

Art in the Park where he’ll donate his

song “Hurricane Shoals” to the Tumbling

Waters Society.

###

The Jackson County Sound concludes

with this installment. In the

words of an old-time song, however,

“ … the melody lingers on,” and there

will be more music in this magazine.

Let the editor know if there are other

Jackson County musicians who should

be featured.

Jaclyn Weldon White is the author of

a number of fiction, nonfiction and

children’s books who resides in Hoschton

with her husband Carl.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

3-10-2010

Jefferson, GA - One of the most revered names in music to any guitarist, amateur or virtuoso, is without question, Martin guitars.

C. F. Martin and Co. is arguably the most prominent brand in the world for acoustic guitars, with an endorsing artist family that includes Eric Clapton, Jimmy Buffett, Arlo Guthrie, Merle Haggard, John Mayer, Sting and dozens of other musical legends and household names.

March 2010 marks the addition of Martin’s latest endorsing artist, Folk & Christian singer/songwriter Ricky Fitzpatrick.

“This is undoubtedly a high point in my musical career”, he comments. “I’ve used Martin products for many, many years and am extremely humbled and proud to be associated with them as an artist this way.”

Critics have long hailed Fitzpatrick as "the next James Taylor", with a voice that's "as smooth as moonshine". But he is best known locally, for his narrative Folk songs about the area. Songs like “Pocataligo”, “Jot ‘Em Down” and “Highway 98” have established him and his writings as a fixture for lovers of local music and nostalgia.

His musical career spans over 20 years, in pop, rock, country, folk and Christian genres, performances from “Live at the Apollo” to The Bluebird Café, and over a dozen industry awards for vocal performance and songwriting. He’s also recently celebrated two Number One downloads in the UK, was named as one of the Top Ten Folk artists on Myspace and was chosen as the 2008 GMIA Writer Relations Director for the State of GA.

In addition to his own musical work, Ricky also runs two of his own record labels (F2 Records and RFM Music Group), posts regular offerings to his online devotional blog (http://besidemeallalong.blogspot.com/) and still maintains an active schedule with the charitable organization that he helped to found, The Healing Power of Music.

His latest CD, “Beside Me All Along” is a collection of acoustic, unplugged versions of some of the most timeless inspirational hymns and Holiday songs ever written. Fans of artists like Wes King, Bebo Norman, and of course, James Taylor will find it familiar territory.

The Athens Borders show is already less than a month away…can you believe it? But everything is coming together and it looks like we’re gearing up for a great night.

Even so, please add this show to your list of regular prayers and lift it (and me) up, asking for God’s blessing on the evening. With your prayers and God's hand, I know it will be wonderful!

And please spread the word to your friends and invite them to come too. I’ve been suggesting to a lot of local churches to make a “pre-Sunday night” of it and get a whole group to come.
For those who haven't heard yet, Landan Jude Fitzpatrick was born 4-30-09 at 5:32AM, 6lbs 6oz and 19 ½ inches long. Yes, it was quick. Yes, we drove 90 MPH from Jefferson to Athens and through downtown at 4-something in the morning. And yes, if we had not driven that fast, we would absolutely have delivered Jude in the car. It was way too close for comfort. Whew.
Drama from day one.
Everyone is fine though. Cretia and Jude are doing great. She is glowing and mothering and acting like she was made to be a new mama. He is perfect and mild mannered and poops a lot. I mean, a lot. Emma loves having a brother and is holding and touching and “petting” him every chance she gets.
Also, check out a few pix on the photos page as well.
Peace!...

Eileen Parker runs/hosts a very cool blog called The Celebrity Maker. TCM is a huge blog with hundreds of members, a wide range of topics and over 25,000 visitors a day (according to the stats on the page)! They basically get behind the scenes with the people who make it happen for the people we all know and remember. A fantastic resource from a very seasoned professional, PR pro and honestly, quite friendly lady. Anyway, Eileen wanted to do an interview with me earlier in the year about how an indie musician does it. So I said “yes” (duh!). Here’s the link that very nice interview…check it out! Thanks Eileen!

Well, it will soon be 4 weeks since the quite stressful table saw episode. I have officially lost all the ever-loosening pieces of my nail, the stitches are out, of course, and I STILL cannot play the guitar with all fingers. But I do try to play and practice, fingering freak-style looking chords, making new fingerings up as I need to and generally shooting a bird the entire time I’m playing. Take it as you will. Obviously, no gigs since the saw. But I am writing, arranging music in my head. Looking forward to recording soon. NADD may be a little late since I haven’t been able to record, but I’m confident it will all work out. Hope to hear from everyone soon…have a great and safe 4th. Peace…Ricky

Thanks to all the fans…newbies AND veterans…Myspace has me ranked #41 in the Unsigned Folk Artist genre for the entire state of GA! Up 10 spots from just a week ago!
Thank you, guys…you are the awesomest!

This past weekend, I decided to run my finger through a table saw. Didn’t seem to bother the table saw all that much, but my poor old finger has a fractured bone and seven lovely stitches running right through the middle of the tip and what’s left of my nail. Ouch!
I’ve been asked about a million times if I can still play the guitar (yes, it was my left hand). Needless to say, no guitar playing for A WHILE. And although I had visions of my career going straight to hell, it should be back to normal soon, assuming the nerve endings aren’t permanently F’d up. We’ll just have to wait and see. On the lighter side, I do get to walk around shooting a permanent bird at everyone…pretty cool.
Luckily, the Pre-release show for the new CD (@ Borders in Athens, GA) isn’t til the end of July. Bad thing, I can’t do much of anything in the studio to FINISH the tracks to go on it. You gotta love fate. But we’re working it out.
Anyway, stay tuned, have faith and thank God for whoever invented Loritab!
Peace…Ricky

Holy cow. So much is happening...it's hard to keep up. Since my last entry, we've resurrected WRFM so you can listen to RF tunes online all day, 24/7. ezFolk has selected me to be a Featured Artist on their Singer/Songwriter homepage. Awesome. And the Moby in the Morning Show has used "Emma's Song" for the second time as background music during the Smalltown Soapbox segment. Very cool. Moby goes out to 9 differnt major Country stations in GA, TN, WV, AL, AR...is that it? I can't remember. But it's a LOT. Thanks everyone for your ongoing support! Life is good. Peace...Ricky

FYI, according to Myspace traffic reports and the Top Artist Charts, I posted this morning as one of the Top 50 Acoustic Artists in North GA! Awesome. Myspace page views (over at www.myspace.com/rickyfitzpatrickmusic), song plays and messages are at an all-time high and growing every single day, and I certainly owe a debt of gratitude to everyone for their ongoing support!
Also, we also hit the Folk and Folk Rock charts for one of the Top 100 artists in the entire state of GA. Also VERY cool.
Keep it up! And thank you!

Lots of new stuff in the works. We are planning a new CD for release in August, called “Not A Dark Day”. As usual, there will be solo acoustic piece on there, but this is the most commercial, radio-friendly recording we’ve ever planned. Lots of tracks. Lots of music. Lots of surprises. And some of the best songs I’ve ever written…in my opinion of course. (Ha!) Our biggest undertaking to date. So stay tuned and get ready for the best RF release ever.
Also signed up for Amie Street’s digital download program. Very cool. Very cheap for me and the fans. Lots of songs are still free. Over 200 downloads so far this week…and still going. Yeah! “Emma’s Song” is kicking it…well into the top ten on AS’s Folk/Acoustic Charts. I’m stoked.

Everyone's been emailing calling, coming over and asking me about the Nashville trip (and I love it), but I thought I'd just type up a brief overview of it and let everyone know how things went.
The trip was wonderful, to say the least. I had hoped for positive feedback on the songs I had written and some excitement about my singing. We got lots of both. I pitched several songs (Mississippi Moonshine, Forever & A Day, Ballad of BTK) to several publishers, made a ton of co-writing connections with rising and soon-to-be rising stars in town, learned to navigate the Nashville Interstate system (or lack thereof) and got to hear and meet some of the real heroes who are writing the hits we hear today. There were a lot of folks - Joe Leathers who wrote "(I Thought I Was) Tough", Chuck Allen Floyd (another major writer in town), Nicole Witt (incredible singer and writer and she just signed a deal with Curb Records), Barry Dean (writer of "God's Will"/Martina McBride and "Small"/Carrie Underwood's newest single). We were just spellbound.
Also hung out a lot with Barbara Cloyd, who is the big-time Nashville person to know, plus she runs the talent at both the Bluebird Cafe and Lyrix Cafe. Barbara also wrote "I Guess You Had to be There" (Lorrie Morgan). We had dinner at her house, drank a few beers and then jammed with a dozen or so of the other writers til about 2AM. Good times. We got to hit The Bluebird Café, Richard's and River Street Café. All with either amazing food, entertainment or both. Also made our rounds to Tootsie's, The Stage, Legends, The Ryman and of course 16th avenue, home to every record label in town like Curb, Lyric Street, Universal, Sony.
Things do move slow for writers and artists in Music City, and it all comes down to who you know. And this was my first trip up in a while. So this is not the top of the stairs. But it was so unbelievably productive and necessary and now we are just watching the road, keeping things in gear and moving forward. Also, the chance to co-write is critical in Nashville and co-writing with someone already established is about the only way in. So we're developing those relationships, planning co-writing sessions with people who are in turn, co-writing with the major players. Then that will turn into the next step of writing with the hit-makers and getting radio play and so on.
Unbelievable trip though. I was shocked for people to make such a fuss over my songs and my singing. Tons of co-writing offers, already. It was exciting and humbling. But it did validate things for me. The reaction to what we did was enough to convince me that we belong there. I don't feel like a fish out of water now…just a tiny fish in a huge pond.
And that was pretty much, the trip. Hopefully, more good news to come, down the road!

We are headed out next week up the road to Nashville. Been a long, long time since I visited the center of the songwriter’s universe, but it feels good to be cruising back up there. The ride, alone is worth the trip. The country is so beautiful. I’ll be playing songs for a few publishers and anticipating good news on that. Thanks everyone, for your support thus far. The web site is rockin’ and the Myspace site just added its 1000th friend! And we’re still adding 20-50 friends every single day! Good things are on the horizon. I’ll snap lots of pix, grab a few videos and share them when we get back. Also, Ashley at The Times in Gainesville may be doing something of a pictography of the trip. Stay tuned for that. Til we hit red clay again…take care. Peace…Ricky

Just off of a performance at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rites. Absolutely amazing. After a fairly cool drive downtown to ATL, I made my way into the colossal (and beautiful) CHOA building that covers…seemed like, several city blocks. Perfectly mannered receptionists made me welcome and I toured the lobby and snapped a few pix while waiting. Peggy Douglas, my volunteer coordinator came down and took me up to the play room, which is where I would perform.
A few chairs, tune up, washing of the hands and I was ready to go.
The kids were prompt and timely. Wow. ( Why do we get late-itus as we get older???) But they came in…some in wheelchairs, some with masks over their little faces, some with IVs and other implements that let the world know how sick they were. But amazingly, I didn’t hear any of them complain or whine or beg for pity. They were just…kids. 2-5-sih. Goofy. Silly. Amazingly intelligent. And cool.
We kicked it off with “Oh Susannah”, which the kids dug, but the parents and staff liked even more. James Taylor comparisons started up. Then we got down to a little John Denver “Country Roads” and the kids were warming up. I think they were liking the guitar more than me.
Finally, after discovering that we had a couple of budding musicians in our midst, we broke out the heavy stuff. “Itsy Bitsy Spider”, “The ABC Song” and “The Wheels on the Bus” and we were rockin’! I found out quick that the right song makes all the difference.
We rocked on with a mix of favorite kid songs along with classic pop and country stuff. Even threw in an original with “Jot ‘Em Down”…which brought up an intro to a lady and her son who live in Maysville. Cool. We also sang an impromptu performance of “123 Like a Bird I Sing” at the request of her son. We all then learned the meaning of “on the fly”.
We also learned about Dobie Gray and all rocked on to “Drift Away”…kids and parents alike and then capped off the set with a killer performance of “Supercalifragileisticexpialidocious”, which the kids thought was an amazing word.
All in all, it was truly the best experience I’ve ever had, in my entire musical career. Really. It was magical. To see the smiles and hear the laughter and see the kids singing and clapping and doing the “spider” motions…it made me realize that as musicians, we really do have an incredible gift. Not that we’re the greatest vocalist or guitarist or writer…or maybe we are…but regardless of our LEVEL of talent, we have the ABILITY to completely change a person’s life. Not just their day, but a life.
I’ll be doing this now ‘til I die. This was like a dream for me. If you are a musician, contact me about how you can get involved with the Healing Power of Music. And if you aren’t, contact me to help volunteer in other areas. I promise, you will never be the same.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Ricky has tied the knot with his sweetheart and inspiration for songs such as "Forever & A Day" and "Better From Here", Cretia Williams. The small ceremony was Sunday July 1 at their new home in Apple Valley. And good luck...it rained! A small gathering of family and close friends joined the happy couple for an afternoon of sweet romance, good food and fun times. Wedding pix were clicked by photographer guru, Taresa Sibcy (see Ricky's other pix for more of Taresa's work). And the bride's sister, Reeda Allen, did the pastor thing and made it all legal! Here's looking forward to a lifetime of happiness and memories.

Just a quick post to let you guys know that I am not dead. In fact, I am very much alive and kicking and still playing and singing. Touring has been temporarily suspended due to personal reasons, and some of the release and recording plans have chnged, but fear not, new music will be coming. Thanks for your continued support! More to come...

Ricky Fitzpatricktag:rickyfitzpatrick.com,2005:Post/61759402006-09-07T20:00:00-04:002019-12-14T08:31:29-05:00James Taylor covers!

I approach the idea of doing an entire night of covers anyway. I mean, I want to sing my own stuff. Everybody knows that. But James...well...it James, you know? He's such an influence on me and such an icon in music and songwriting. It's actually quite an honor to be able to do these songs.
I hope people will respond well to the set. I know a lot of JT, but there are a lot of pretty mainstream ones that I don't know. Hope I can pull this one off. I think it will be good though...the songs have their own legs. And people already know and love them. I'll just be the brush that delivers the paint on the canvas.
Looking forward to Saturday night!

Just posting a quick update as to the current state of mind, following the Shawn Mullins concert. Yeah.
Stoked. Totally stoked.
Great show. I mean, great. Really boosted my inspiration level. And I sure needed a kick in the ass.
Shawn was a great performer and a perfect gentleman. Hung out to sign autos and snap pix after the show (see the pictures page). Had Cretia, and the kids there too, and they all enjoyed it. Emma's first concert, and I'm so glad it got to be someone worthy of the honor :).
Can't wait to do this again.

Sending out a quick post about Songwriter’s Universe, a super online resource for Songwriters of all genres. SU is a totally respected source in the music community, and they run a monthly contest called…um…Song of the Month Contest. I have two songs entered for the month of July. Mississippi Moonshine and Ballad of Billy the Kid. Cross your fingers. Prizes include one million dollars!...ok…prizes include bragging rights and lots of cool stuff. No bucks. Hope for the best!!! Peace…Ricky

Once again, things are booming. Hwy 98 is garnering rave reviews from all over. And votes are pouring in. As of today, we are at almost 500, and climbing.
And let's not forget the Peckerhead Tees. THey are available, but not for much longer. Supplies are getting lower so get your order in right away.
On a personal note...wrote three new songs Tuesday and Wed. Listening to a lot of Croce lately and that inspires me. Also working in as much Prine as possible. Also checked out the new Phil Vassar CD (Thanks Donna!). Awesome. This guy is a hit machine. Really gives me something to aspire to.
That's all today. Later.

What a beautiful weekend! Went Friday night to see my youngest son, Caleb, in a VBS program. He did such a great job! Then Saturday night, played at the Melting Point. Awesome! What a venue. We all had a great time…can’t wait to go back. And then Sunday, we got in some time at the pool, got some tanning going, got Emma in the pool. She loved the water. We all enjoyed our weekend. Then only way it could’ve been better is if there had been lots more of it.

Ricky Fitzpatricktag:rickyfitzpatrick.com,2005:Post/61759292006-06-28T20:00:00-04:002019-12-14T08:31:29-05:00Now Accepting Credit Cards!!!

As of today, we are officially taking credit and debit cards both on line and on site at all live shows! I’m really excited about adding the card feature because so many people come to shows and either don’t have cash on them or don’t have enough. I’ll bet I’ve been asked a hundred times if I take cards. Well now, the answer will forever be “yes”!
Fans can buy CDs, t-shirts and even leave tips on their cards. Just as easy…if not EASIER than cash. And for online purchases, it’s as easy as sending me an email with what you want. I’ll reply with what I need. And then you send it back. I mail your stuff out. And we’re both smiling.

Ricky Fitzpatricktag:rickyfitzpatrick.com,2005:Post/61759272006-06-26T20:00:00-04:002019-12-14T08:31:29-05:00Studio Session, done.

Went back to the studio last night at Radium. Ah. It was nice. I get nervous and relaxed all at the same time, going in to record. Cretia was there with me, making me laugh and snapping pix (watch for those soon). She got some really good shots of the grand piano there in the small room where I recorded. I can’t wait til you guys see that shot! We finally got Ballad of Billy the Kid and Emma’s Song down on tape. Down n dirty…pretty much straight takes. Unusual for me, but that’s definitely the way I like it. I didn’t want to tweak these too much because I want people to know what it’s like to hear me…mmm…undoctored. I think we succeeded in these. Check out the clips on the MUSIC page and make sure to get your copy of Peckerhead, which will have them in their entirety. Later…R.

Headed down to Radium Recording tonight for a short session with Chris Bishop. Working on some of the Peckerhead material and finalizing that so we can have it shelf ready, on time. I always enjoy working with Chris. And tonight will be even nicer, having Cretia there in the studio with me. She’s relaxing and just having her there is a great support. Keep an eye skinned here for notes on how things went.

Ricky Fitzpatricktag:rickyfitzpatrick.com,2005:Post/61759242006-06-23T20:00:00-04:002019-12-14T08:31:29-05:00Photos

Cretia, Emma and I went out with friend and photographer extraordinaire, Taresa Sibcy for a very cool photo session today. On a side note, keep an eye out here for a link to her upcoming web site. She is awesome.
We started out on the other side of Gillsville on some secluded RR tracks. Taresa got some very cool shots of me playing the guitar and walking the tracks, playing, smoking a cigarette. Can’t wait to see those. It was a little unnerving, having so many pictures taken. But Taresa was a pro all the way and did a great job at making me feel relaxed.
Next we headed to Hall County, off of Whitehall Road to an old grist mill. Turns out, the mill was fenced in, but the area was just awesome. Taresa had an old chair that we put down on the creek bank. I propped up in it right on the water, playing and posing. Then a few shots on the bridge. And finally we got a lot of shots of me playing/singing on the porch of some old adjacent house, there on the site…bandana on-head. That was the most relaxed I’d been all day.
As fate would have it, a truck drove by and we met Hugh and Delaine Quinn. Turns out they used to live in the house right there by the mill. Very cool. Hugh told us about shooting snakes under the bridge…of course AFTER we had tramped all around there. They were really nice folks. Gave them a CD.
So now we’re waiting for another weekend to do a few more shots with maybe an old barn, an old truck/tractor and a few head shots. Things like that. So if anyone knows of a spot, let me know. I’ll go check it out.
Til next time…

Ricky Fitzpatricktag:rickyfitzpatrick.com,2005:Post/61759232006-06-19T20:00:00-04:002019-12-14T08:31:29-05:00House Concerts

A while back, I started exploring the world of House Concerts. Huh? Yeah…that’s what I said. But apparently, this is something that is growing in popularity as people are attending fewer live shows (dealing with the noise, the smoke, the drunks…), but they still crave the live experience that you just can’t get on a CD.
House Concerts are basically, a fan (or fans) that host a show at their house, either in their living room, garage, shop, backyard, etc. It’s just like having a party or a cook out, only everyone comes with the idea of maybe bringing a dish or drinks and the center of the event is a live performance by a musician that the fans set up to come. Guests either pay a per head admission or understand that they leave a donation to the artist…which is usually expected to be somewhere around $10-20 per guest.
And they can buy CDs, t-shirts, etc. It’s a pretty cool concept, and the guests get a private concert, that is very intimate. Most house concerts run around 10-50 people, tops. So it’s a unique opportunity for fans and artist to really interact without the pressures of a bar or club atmosphere.
Anyway, I say this because, I want to encourage you to step up and give the house concert thing a try. It isn’t any harder than asking a few friends over for dinner. It will be a brand new experience that most of your friends have never had before, and one that they’ll probably remember for years to come. You’ll be a social hero .
Email me if you’re interested in this cool chance to be a part of our local music scene.
Thanks for reading. See you all soon!
Ricky

Ricky Fitzpatricktag:rickyfitzpatrick.com,2005:Post/61759212006-06-13T20:00:00-04:002019-12-14T08:31:29-05:00Gone, gone, gone!

The dreaded hate site is finally gone. As everyone will notice, I removed the link to the site and deleted all the posts on the board about it. As far as I care, it never existed, because it sure made life a lot more interesting than I wanted it to be. I would say thanks to the person who created it, for removing it, but I won’t. I’m sure they’ll continue to do little things here and there to nit pick, but it isn’t that important. For everyone’s FYI, my ex-wife and I agreed together that the site was a detriment to both of us and to our kids, so she requested that the site be taken down, and I guess the person behind it must’ve finally agreed.
Also, just to be up front about everything with everyone…and because of the recent fiasco…Hostbaby, who hosts my site, has implemented a tracking device of sorts, that helps me monitor in detail, the traffic coming into the site, posting on the board…all that. It isn’t used for “watching” you. But only for security and pulling data, if needed, in case we get some meathead coming to the site. Then we can trace them back, report them and take action if we have to. The tracker is invisible and won’t affect the site operation at all.
Now…we can all get back to life as we know it, playing music, booking shows, studio time, CDs…all that.
BTW, thank you to everyone who was so supportive of me during this and thank you for your positive comments and things you posted in my defense. I would like to ask, please, that no one post anything negative about anyone. Please. Not my ex, Cretia’s ex. None of them. We really want to put that behind us. All of us. And the best way to do that is to let everything heal by leaving it alone.
So once again, thanks! Everyone has been wonderful. See you out there.

Ricky Fitzpatricktag:rickyfitzpatrick.com,2005:Post/61759202006-06-11T20:00:00-04:002019-12-14T08:31:28-05:00Over the Weekend

We spent the day this past Saturday with my brother and his family. Loved being up in the mountains. It really is beautiful up there. And the ride up was just as enjoyable. Many of you may remember that he has been logging flight hours, so we went up for a short flight with him. Incredible. And I even got to pilot for a few minutes. It was a great day and a great night. And we slept half the day Sunday, catching up on some missed sleep. Worked on a few new songs that I’ve been tinkering on, some alternate tunings, a couple of lyrical ideas. Maybe I’ll have the chance to share some of them at the next gig. Til next time…

Ricky Fitzpatricktag:rickyfitzpatrick.com,2005:Post/61759182006-06-08T20:00:00-04:002019-12-14T08:31:28-05:00I Hate RF (huh?)

You know you hate to acknowledge something, trivial. But sometimes, I guess you just have to. As you may notice, I have a link on the Home Page and in the Links Page to a nifty site I found…the I Hate Ricky Fitzpatrick site.
My first hate site, I have to say. What a left-handed honor :) But not exactly what I would’ve done. The graphics are a little sucky but I know that just comes from the Geocities page builder software. And it’s pretty anonymous. Yahoo! is very anonymous with their members, so the chances of ever knowing who the web master is for this site, are slim to none.
At any rate, I wanted to link to it because even though I didn’t care for it, it actually is funny. But also a sad reflection of someone who really needs a hobby. I mean…other than bashing me. Maybe they could get a job. Or be a parent. Or something that grown people do besides slander other people.
But…I encourage you to check it out. Go to the link I have, browse around and leave them a comment on their board. I think it’s worth a comment. Or leave a comment for me on my board. And if you have any questions about anything you see there, please ask me. Like I’ve said, I’ll gladly give you a straight answer or politely tell you that it’s private. I think that’s fair.
Thanks so much for everyone's support and the trust that each of my fans have extended to me from the very start. And thanks in advance for your openmindedness.
Until next time, hope everyone has a great day. Hope to see you all soon.
Ricky

Ricky Fitzpatricktag:rickyfitzpatrick.com,2005:Post/61759162006-06-05T20:00:00-04:002022-05-31T00:31:30-04:00Highway 98 status...

I wanted to let everyone know what is going on with ‘Highway 98’…
I just got off the phone with Rep Tom McCall’s office with the GA House of Representatives. He is one of the reps for Madison County. As it turns out, road dedications are done quite frequently. And given the nature of everything, he may can present a House Resolution in the upcoming session to have “Highway 98” dedicated as the “Official Song of GA Hwy 98”. Wow. Wouldn’t that be awesome? I would love for all of us to be a part of doing something that will be a permanent addition to our history. Something that we can tell our kids and grandkids “I helped with that”.
The next session isn’t until the second week of January, so we have time to prepare. But in the meanwhile I’ll be gathering emails, letters, signatures, asking for help putting out flyers, calling radio stations, etc…for support for the resolution. We’ll try to coordinate everything so it will have the most impact. And, the more local support this resolution gets, the better. The House will need a reason to pass it…so let’s give it to them.
More to come as I get information. And thanks for all your support!!!

Howdy all. Hope you like the new digs...I really do. The new site is much cleaner, much neater than the previous one. We've changed a few things and still kept some of your fave stuff. So make yourself at home, leave me a message, listen to some of the new music and keep an eye on the calendar for a show near you.
Speaking of...our latest is June 18th (yes, Father's Day) at Borders in Athens (Beechwood). Come check it out. All unplugged, acoustic. New songs. Lots of coffee. See you there!
