The only real "rocker" Country song I've written, "South" was not my style. I mean, I love the song, the music, the melody, the vibe...but it's just not suited to my voice.
But rising TX Country Music star, JR Castillo has THE voice for it. I mean, he was born to sing this song.
JR tweaked the words to speak moreso to TX, but he recorded this exactly as I had envisioned it. What a great job!
If you love Country Music, you will love hearing JR sing "It All Went South". :)

It All Went South

Verse 1
I was sitting in a traffic jam,
Interstate, running late,
Monday morning work hour blues.
Rubbernecking,
Singing low with my radio,
Stuck between a Lexus and a Subaru.

Bridge 1
That’s when I noticed some fella
Playing drums on his steering wheel,
Smiling in his four wheel drive.
And by the downtown connector
I was curious enough
I yelled “Partner what you got up in the cab of that truck?”

Chorus 1
He yelled Patsy Cline, George Jones,
Rascal Flatts, Tim McGraw,
Alabama, Lyndyrd Skynyrd layin it down.
Hank Jr, Reba McIntyre, Garth Brooks…
That’s about the time I fin’ly figured it out.
And that’s when it all went South.

Verse 2
I was born in Minnesota,
Went to college, corner office
‘Bout as far as you can get from a farm.
I never thought about
Collard greens, faded jeans,
Huntin’, fishin’, campin’ underneath the stars.

Bridge 2
But I made a change and it didn’t take long
Til my wife said I made her think of Tommy Lee Jones.
I made a promise I intend to keep
From my Stetson to my custom Tony Lamas on my feet.

Chorus 2
I like Alan Jackson, Buck Owens,
Dolly Parton, Dwight Yokham,
Brad Paisley, Charlie Daniels picking it out.
Kenny Chesney, Faith Hill, George Strait,
Everybody knows what I’m talking about.
And that’s when it all went South.

Bridge 3
You know the truth be known,
I spent half my life
A few hundred miles north of the Mason Dixon line.
Now the whole damn world’s
Sportin’ cowboy boots,
But I admit I kinda like getting back to my roots…like…

Chorus 1
He yelled Patsy Cline, George Jones,
Rascal Flatts, Tim McGraw,
Alabama, Lyndyrd Skynyrd layin it down.
Hank Jr, Reba McIntyre, Garth Brooks…
That’s about the time I fin’ly figured it out.
And that’s when it all went South.

Chorus 2
I like Alan Jackson, Buck Owens,
Dolly Parton, Dwight Yokham,
Brad Paisley, Charlie Daniels picking it out.
Kenny Chesney, Faith Hill, George Strait,
Everybody knows what I’m talking about.
Sweet potato pie and I shut my mouth…
And that’s when it all went South.
